Hungry For Change: A Summit about American and Israeli Strategies for Food Security, Recovery and Justice

Carole attended this conference, co-sponsored by both Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia, and Hazon, the Jewish Lab For Sustainability. It brought together many national organizations, activists and a team of Israeli experts dedicated to alleviating hunger and increasing food security.

Best practices included ways to build more sustainable and equitable food systems, new ideas of recovery and delivery, reinventing the food pantry, and farming and cooking - using food to build community. Experts spoke of pioneering trends to change food habits so that we lessen the climate impacts of our food choices.

Joel Berg, CEO of Hunger Free America, a New York nonprofit that fights hunger, states that 15 million Americans are working at least one job and are food insecure. One in five Philadelphians face hunger. "The number of Americans who are sometimes poor is 10 times the number of people who are perpetually poor."
