Camp Week at Children's Hospital - All Summer Long

Carole Landis Foundation is once again supporting The Hole In The Wall Gang Camp Hospital Outreach Program. Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, this year’s Camp Week at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), however, is looking different - much of it happening virtually.

Since May 2020, virtual programming has allowed in-patients and out-patients of 43 participating HIWG hospitals along the east coast to take part in camp virtually. Camp hospital outreach staff have taken to Facebook Live with daily interactive programs, including sing-a-longs, story time, arts and crafts, campfire chats, and storybooks read by celebrities.

In addition, two Philadelphia Hospital Outreach Program (HOP) specialists will broadcast from Seacrest Studios inside CHOP lobby August 17-21. The lineup includes more than 50 videos, including camp-style Bingo, a paint-a-long, Slime Day, and a woodshop activity. Arts and craft materials are delivered to the patients’ rooms.

One-on-one Zoom virtual visits at the children’s bedsides have taken place during the past three months. Interactive virtual activity videos are created five times each week and streamed through CHOP hospital closed circuit TV in patients’ rooms.

The Hole In The Wall Gang Camp philosophy is, "Camp isn’t a place - it is spirit… a love and a sense of magic that wraps around the world."

The kids are excited because something special and different has been created for them, creating smiles and giggles, and a connection with others, and distracting them from their serious illnesses.
