Carole Landis Lobbies in Washington DC, and in Harrisburg, PA, Against Hate and in Support of Vulnerable Populations

Carole Landis, the founder of the Carole Landis Foundation, recently lobbied the U.S. Congress in Washington DC as part of an Anti-Defamation League (ADL) delegation. She spoke to various elected officials and/or their aides about countering anti-Semitism and hate crimes, and on behalf of improved gun safety laws and equality for LGBTQ people.

In the days leading up to her lobbying efforts, Landis attended the ADL’s National Leadership Summit, which included presentations and talks by many U.S. Senators and Representatives, including House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, who commended the ADL’s mission to fight back against Anti-Semitism, hate, racism, Islamophobia, transphobia, for all: “I am proud to be by your side." He also addressed the rise of Anti-Semitism in the U.S., saying “Anti-Semitism is the canary in the coal mine of Hate. This is America. Hate is not welcome.”

Later in June, as a trustee of The Jewish Federation, and as an Executive Board member of Anti-Defamation League, Landis visited the state capitol, met with Governor Tom Wolf, and played an active role in visiting state senators and their aides, and state representatives and their aides in Harrisburg, PA.

Topics Landis and her colleagues addressed included improving Pennsylvania’s hate crimes statutes and assigning civil rights protections to LGBTQ people.

“Every citizen has the right to lobby congress. Every voice is important if you care deeply about the issues,” says Landis. “I felt validated when several of the aides stated that the senator or representative agreed and had cosponsored or initiated several bills to that effect - such as the hate crimes bill and the bill protecting rights of LGBTQ people.”
