What kid doesn’t count the days until the last day of school in June? For many kids summer signals fun and freedom from schedules. Or a chance to sleep in. For others, however, it is hard to enjoy any activity when they are hungry and worried about when and where their next meal will be.
For 1 in 6 children in our region who face daily hunger and growling bellies, summer means no school which means no breakfasts, no lunches, no snacks.
This June, Philabundance launched “Let’s Eat,” a collaborative meal box program with chefs from well-known Center City restaurants, and their own Philabundance Community Kitchen (PCK). The cooks and chefs provide written recipes, cooking tips, and nutrition education as well as the ready-prepared ingredients to create the meals for the meal kits to be distributed.
Philabundance will distribute 2,000 meal box kits per week for 8 weeks - each kit providing 8 meals (4 servings per meal) to this region and Southern New Jersey.
Carole Landis Foundation is providing funding for 2,000 meal kits for one week of the eight.
