Moments of Humanity - 2018

Looking back at a year spiked with divisiveness, an increase in hate crimes (17%), racism-tinged rhetoric, and an increase in anti-Semitic incidents, there were moments where people demonstrated that the human spirit is more powerful than hate, and it inspired us and gave us hope.

  • March for Our Lives - Student Activism - Their campaign, the largest display in a generation, was not only a resolute response to an aggressive act of terror, but one year later the campaign against gun violence has sustained its momentum.
  • Muslim leaders and communities raised more than $238,000 in support of Pittsburg Tree of Life Synagogue shooting victims
  • A Silicon Valley couple raised not only $20 million to help reunite migrant families separated at the southern border but raised world-wide consciousness about the inhumanity of this horrific blight on our history. Facebook fundraiser went viral, with donations from all over the world, sometimes at $10,000 per minute.
  • Companies take controversial positions of leadership to fight hate.
    • Nike’s Colin Kaepernick “Just Do It” campaign
    • Apple raises the bar on Ethical Tech. CEO Tim Cook stated the role of the tech industry in fighting hate. “We believe the future should belong to those who use technology to build a better, more inclusive and more hopeful world.”
