Foundation chairwoman Carole Landis responded to the tragic February 14 shootings and death of 17 students of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
Besides writing a letter of condolence and encouragement to the students/survivors on behalf of the Foundation board of directors, she donated funding to the March For Our Lives rally organized by the students scheduled for March 24 in Washington, D.C, and contributed additional funding designated towards a future permanent memorial that the school may choose to create. In addition, Carole wrote a letter to Senator Bob Casey imploring him to help pass legislation on stricter gun controls, in particular banning AR-15 semi-automatic rifles, and other like rifles outfitted with high capacity detachable magazines. Americans own nearly 15 million AR-15 style rifles, and these military-designed weapons are responsible for nearly 50% of all mass shootings in the past 20 years.
