Foundation Helps Plant Seeds for Sustainable Food Source

TRELLIS FOR TOMORROW
"We’re getting seeds into the ground, and food into this community."

Trellis For Tomorrow builds sustainable communities from the ground up. Through meaningful work - the planting and management of organic gardens - students from local schools are given the opportunity to learn critical life skills, how to start and support a business, and how to make valuable contributions to their economically challenged communities.

Trellis planned for a new organic vegetable garden at a housing complex at the edge of Pottstown. These neighbors have limited access to nutrient-dense food. But as the food demands of the Covid19 pandemic became obvious, Trellis decided to enlarge the existing garden plans.

Our Foundation made a donation to help cover the cost of seeds, 1,600 seedlings, and plants, to be placed in this garden. The Trellis staff and only a few students had to plant in shifts, social distancing. The new group of students who entered this program were beginning to learn the business skills remotely, by virtually connecting with the instructors and a new student peer group.

This garden plans to produce 5,000-6,000 pounds of food which will provide 20,000-25,000 meals to the neighbors of this apartment complex. For more info, visit www.trellis4tomorrow.org.
